M31 The Andromeda Galaxy

Andromeda is an amazingly beautiful galaxy, when viewed upon at the correct wavelengths. One of my favorite cosmic pictures, amongst many. M31 is our closest neighboring galaxy. It is the closest galaxy to our home, The MilkyWay. This 'nearest' galaxy sits 200,000,000 light years away from us. For all the beginners, this means that if you got into a spaceship right now, and embarked on a bold journey for Andromeda, traveling at the speed of light, 186,000 miles per second (you would travel fully around the earth 7 time in one second at this velocity), you would not get there for another 200 million years. Yes... This is the closest galaxy..
